Happy, Healthy, Me!
This half term in Reception we have been settling into our new class and learning about ourselves. We have learnt the new routines in Reception, talked about our families and thought about what makes us healthy. We have enjoyed exploring different role plays such as The Hospital and The Fruit and Vegetable shop. We have sorted foods into healthy and unhealthy, made Mr Potato Heads with real vegetables and carefully followed instructions to make fruits salad.
We have been learning about the World around us. We talked about where we live in Maryport and any places we had visited. We used our Travel agents to book holidays.
we have also been thinking about the changes in season. We brought Autumn objects into school from our Autumn treasure hunts and talked about what they were and where they came from. We have read Autumn stories, made salt dough hedgehogs and Autumn crowns.
Festivals.
We celebrated the various Autumn festivals in school. We had a Halloween dress up day, celebrated Bonfire Night and then had a Diwali day. We read stories about the various celebrations, tried different foods, made crafts and watched videos of others celebrating these different customs and traditions.
Colour
We enjoyed reading the story The Colour Monster in Reception. We talked about how the different colours represent feelings and some of the things that make us feel happy and sad. We made our own Monsters and had a go at writing sentences about our own Colour Monsters.
Christmas.
We had lots of fun at Christmas in school. From reading and learning through our Christmas Story ‘The Jolly Postman’ to our Christmas play, to our Christmas trip to Planet Play and our Christmas party.
