Reception

The Reception day starts at 8.30 and finishes at 3.00. Throughout the school day the children will take part in a number of adult-led and child-initiated activities which will support the development of personal and social skills, improving communication and language, early phonics, reading and writing, mathematics, developing fine and gross motor skills, understanding the world and expressive art and design. The children will be given the opportunity to learn both indoors and outside in our engaging and well-planned learning environment.

Children should come to school in their school PE kit on a Tuesday (tracksuit bottoms or leggings can be worn) with trainers or pumps or a school PE kit and be bought alongside school uniform using the links provided.

NO JEWELLERY is to be worn at anytime.

We do exercise daily through the Healthy Movers programme and at the start of the year complete the Move to Write programme. This takes place for the first 20 minutes of the day.

All children in Reception will bring a Reading Together book home on a weekend. This can be changed daily from our Outdoor Reading shed. Once they receive a reading book, they will receive an online book and a Book Bag Book from the Read, Write inc scheme. Reception children will read a minimum of 3 times a week to an adult in school with the expectation of reading 5 times a week at home. Please bring their book bags everyday.

We ask for a donation of £11.00 per term to provide the children with a variety of snacks recommended through the Eat Better Start Guidance.

Autumn

In Autumn Term we learn about Ourselves, Colour and Festivals. We discuss healthy foods and exercise, our feelings and families. We enjoy stories such as The Colour Monster, Mixed and My World Your World looking at cultural differences and diversity.

Spring

In Spring Term we read a variety of favourite stories, such as The Tiger Who Came to Tea and The Gruffalo. We choose stories that the children know well and are able to retell.

We also spend time learning well-known Nursery Rhymes and Traditional Tales. We read stories such as Chicken Licken and The Gingerbread Man and enjoyed reenacting these stories.

Summer

In Summer Term we enjoy learning about animals. This year we have read stories about farm animals such as What the Ladybird Heard, Farmer Duck and Rosie's Walk. We drew maps to help the robbers find their way to the fine prize cow and took Rosie on a new adventure in Drawing Club.
